I’m a bit of a drama queen Royals,
At least when it comes to my lashes! Okay…and maybe in real life too. What woman doesn’t have her moments?? The point is, I want you to know up front that if you prefer a more “natural” look that doesn’t include smoldering and flirty lashes, then this post may not be for you. But come to think of it…stick around anyway. You can use these mascaras for special occasions if nothing else!
When I’m looking for a mascara, I’m looking for drama and a “false lash” look without the hassle. I don’t have the patience to apply 50 coats to get my desired effect and clumping is a HUGE turn-off. Traditionally I’ve found that volumizing mascaras do the trick. I’m blessed with pretty long lashes and lengthening mascaras don’t do much for me.
I’ve tried both high-end (Christian Dior Diorshow Mascara $25; Benefit ‘They’re Real’ Mascara $22) and cheap-o drugstore mascaras (elf Studio Lengthening & Volumizing Waterproof Mascara -Black $3). Although I’m always in search of my holy grail of mascaras, there are several tubes (and one brand in particular) that I seem to always come back to. In no particular order they are:
L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black (Original)
This is the mascara that solidified my preference for volumizing mascaras. L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara give you the thickest most smoldering lashes possible. This mascara is the perfect accompaniment to a classic smoky eye.
Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara in Blackest Black
I have been through SEVERAL tubes of this mascara. It’s hands down one of my all-time favorites. I always seem to come back to it! It’s $5 and does more for my lashes than Diorshow ever did. Although they’ve come out with a million different versions of this, stick with the original. In my opinion it’s still the best. Use this mascara when you want the look of false lashes without having to apply any. Two coats is all you need to get long, thick, luscious lashes!
Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black
I tried this mascara almost a year before I tried The Falsies. A friend of mine (who has ridiculously long and thick lashes naturally) used this and I thought it might give me a somewhat dramatic effect. Boy was I surprised! It performed above and beyond myexpectations. It’s definitely perfect as a “special occasion” mascara or when you plan on batting your lashes all night long.
Estee Lauder MagnaScopic Maximum Volume Mascara ($21)
I think Estee Lauder’s mascaras are grossly overlooked. I can think of about three off the top of my head that send my lashes over the moon. However, MagnaScopic is my first love. My Aunt Brenda doesn’t wear mascara and always gives me the tubes that come in her gift sets. Although their mascaras seem a bit pricey, they don’t dry out quick and always deliver. Whatever that tube says it does, it will do that and more! I’m absolutely in love with this high-end brand of mascaras.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara in Rich Black ($19)
There’s a reason they put a deluxe sample of this in every Tarte eyeshadow pallete…To get you hooked! This mascara does it all: lengthen, curl, volumize, and condition lashes. What it doesn’t do is coat your lashes with:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
I’m a MASCARA JUNKIE…So I have to know…What do you reach for when you want dramatic lashes? Have you tried any of the ones above? Don’t forget to “Like”, Subscribe & Leave a comment below!
Flirt Royally,
J. Clarice
